Officials anticipate that the new model will help to address how women are affected in crashes and reduce traffic fatalities.
The Department of Transportation announced that it is introducing a new crash test dummy, the THOR-05F, that has a smaller female design. The department stated that this new design is intended to help “address the trend of higher injury rates for women than men in certain car crash scenarios.”
The department said, “Advances in technology now make it possible to more accurately account for the biological differences between male and female anatomy in crash testing, paving the way for a new generation of safety for all.”
The new dummy is equipped with state-of-the-art features, with over 150 sensors that can collect three times more injury measurements, and a more accurate and lifelike design. The new THOR-05F dummy will join other dummies in the family of other test dummies used by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which also includes children.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated, “Biological fact isn’t just a talking point – it’s an important safety consideration when designing cars. After years of delays, our team has worked hard over the last eight months to finalize the details for this new, state-of-the-art female crash test dummy. Under the leadership of President Trump, this Department will continue to put the safety of American families – including women – first.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Duffy as he oversees the implementation of updated transportation safety measures to protect Americans on the road.
- For officials in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to use the new THOR-05F dummy effectively for the benefit of women drivers and passengers.
