The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. – Proverbs 18:10
There were six cities of refuge in the Promised Land. The Lord provided these places for those who unintentionally caused someone else’s death. These were cities to which the person could flee, where an avenger could not take retribution until the killer could stand in judgment. But the person had to run quickly to the place of refuge for safety.
Do you realize the true blessing you have as a believer in Jesus Christ? The Lord is your refuge, a strong tower to which you can run for safety! The name of the Lord, His titles, His attributes, and His covenant promises establish the foundation for your security. When you “cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light” (Romans 13:12), you can run quickly to your Heavenly Father, who will protect and guide you on your way.
The righteous person will run to the Lord in prayer. The sanctuary of God is accessible without having to flee to a distant city for its protection. Depending on God and having a heart devoted to obeying Him instead of the world will place you in the relationship that frees you to “run” to Him any time of the day or night. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). He is your safe shelter.
While there will always be trials to face and difficulties the enemy will employ to try to distract you and get you to wander from the Lord, there are also blessings from God beyond measure available to you. Run to Him as your refuge. Seek His guidance for your life, as well as for those who serve in government. Recognize and receive the blessing of His goodness.
