Senate Bill Seeks to Reclaim Unused Funds from COVID-Related Programs

The legislation would cancel all unobligated funds from COVID-related programs.

Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa introduced the “Returning Unspent COVID Funds Act” this week. The legislation would reclaim over $65 billion in COVID-19 funding that the Government Accountability Office reported has not been used.

Senator Ernst said, “The COVID cash bonanza was a $4.5 trillion all-you-can-eat buffet of waste, fraud, and abuse with the cost eaten by taxpayers.”

She continued, “At $38 trillion in debt, the federal government shouldn’t have secret slush funds or be spending them on golf carts, bowling parties, and high school drag shows. While too much money has already been sent out the door, we have a chance to return the remaining $65 billion to the American people.”

The canceled funding would be reclaimed from the American Rescue Plan Act, the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act, the CARES Act, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, and the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act. ,

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Ernst as she endeavors to recoup the billions in unused, unobligated COVID funding.
  • For members of the House and Senate to be prudent in considering the legislation.
