Commanding General, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing

Marcus B. Annibale is a native of Fairfax, Virginia. He earned an undergraduate degree from George Mason University, and was commissioned into the Marine Corps. He completed Basic School and flight training, becoming an AV-8B Harrier pilot. He later earned a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He is a graduate of the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, Tactical Air Control Party Course, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, and Senior Planners Course.

Annibale served in several commanding officer positions in the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. He also served in Marine Attack Squadron 513 and Marine Attack Squadron 311, with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, Amphibious Task Force West and the Unit Deployment Program to Japan. He has served in staff assignments as a pilot instructor and head of various aviation operations.

Annibale became Assistant Deputy Director of Operations in the J-3 Directorate of the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. He also served as Director, Strategy and Plans Division, Plans, Policies and Operations, Headquarters Marine Corps. He then served as Director of Expeditionary Warfare.

Annibale became Commanding General, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in July 2024. He has over 2,500 mishap-free flight hours.

Commanding General of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Major General Marcus Annibale relieved the commander, the executive officer, and the senior enlisted officer of the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 268 in Hawaii of duty for failing to uphold safety and readiness standards.

“We hold ourselves to the highest standards of performance, addressing challenges head-on to uphold operational excellence,” the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing spokesman stated.

“We are committed to implementing best practices and policies that ensure a strong coupling of well-prepared pilots and crews with safe, mission-ready aircraft.”
