Do you not know? Do you not hear? Has it not been told you from the beginning? – Isaiah 40:21
It was a time of peace in Israel… but it did not last. Babylon had seen the treasures of the land and would return to conquer the people and carry them away. The prophet Isaiah lamented the things to come, for the judgment of God would be harsh because of Israel’s sins of idolatry, injustice, immorality, and utter disregard of the messengers sent by God to warn the people.
In the midst of all of this, Isaiah carried words of comfort to his people and a reminder of the greatness of their God. Bible commentator Warren Wiersbe identifies what he calls “four voices” that are heard in Isaiah’s message. There is a voice pardoning all iniquities; the voice of providence when the Lord fulfills His promise of the Messiah. The voice of promise is heard as Isaiah speaks of nations and leaders who fulfill their purposes and then fade away, “but the word of our God will stand forever.” Finally, there is the voice of peace – “Behold your God!” He will be like a shepherd, and “will gather the lambs in his arms… and gently lead those that are with young” (Isaiah 40:1-11).
How well do you listen to God? Do you hear the message the Lord has for you? He is the Sovereign, Creator to whom none can be compared. He is “the everlasting God” whose “understanding is unsearchable” (Isaiah 40:28). Be assured that you can place all your hope in Him. Pray that God’s wisdom would guide everyone casting votes in next week’s election. Then trust as He works out His plan.
Today’s Verse: Isaiah 40:21
Do you not know? Do you not hear?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?

But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, 14 to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
