President Trump Open to Meeting with Senate and House Minority Leaders

Trump Resolute Desk
He said they just need to reopen the government and he’ll schedule a meeting.

President Donald Trump responded to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s public request to schedule a meeting over the government shutdown. The minority party has refused to approve a continuing resolution, insisting that healthcare subsidies set to expire at the end of this year be included in the current proposal.

“I would like to meet with both of them, but I set one little caveat,” President Trump said. “They have to let the country open. The people want to go back to work. They want to be served. They need the services of some people, and a lot of people need the money, the payroll, so I’ll do it as soon as they open up the country.”

The shutdown has entered its fourth week. The president’s administration has engaged in creative reallocation to pay military personnel and federal law enforcement.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for President Trump as he urges the minority party to reopen the government.
  • For members of the Senate as they consider the continuing resolution to fund federal agencies and departments.
