The previously announced summit between the U.S. and Russian presidents has been called off.
President Donald Trump met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Wednesday to discuss peace for Ukraine. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke on the phone earlier in the week, but did not make headway on the previously announced meeting between Presidents Trump and Putin, so that summit has been called off.
Secretary General Rutte requested the meeting with President Trump after the first phase of the ceasefire in Gaza began to be implemented. The NATO secretary general said he is confident that the U.S. president is “the only one who can get this done,” and that his meeting with President Trump is to promote his “vision on bringing this war to a durable and lasting end.”
The NATO leader said that President Trump’s “leadership here is crucial. He is clearly providing it and he has to dialogue with all the leaders. He has to dialogue with Putin, he has to dialogue with Zelensky.”
Russia launched a large drone attack this week on the energy infrastructure in Ukraine’s capital that killed at least six people and injured nearly two dozen. Ukraine has struck Russian plants that produce ammunition and explosives for the Russian military.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump to seek God’s direction as he works to bring about peace in Ukraine.
- For wisdom for Secretary Rubio, Envoy Witkoff, and U.S. diplomats who are engaged in discussions to implement ceasefires.
