Draw Near

Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint.   – Psalm 64:1

What causes you to fear? Is it the potential for an economic downturn or the possible diagnosis of an illness? Perhaps it is the crime rate, infringements upon constitutional liberties, or the instability in the world in general after the COVID-19 pandemic. Whenever people fear, they are inclined to respond negatively to try and mitigate whatever risks they perceive.

Fear can be devastating when you allow it to control you. Proverbs 29:25 states, “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.” Though temptations to become anxious may surround you, God urges you to remember that He is nearer still. “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you” (James 4:8). “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (Hebrews 10:22). “But for me, it is good to be near God” (Psalm 73:28). When a fear tries to attack you, pull out that “f“ and insert an “n!“ As you draw near to the Lord, the grip of fear is released.

Pray for federal, state, and local leaders to seek God’s guidance as they face the concerns of citizens. Thank Him today for members of our government who confidently stand up and take action, not cowering in fear at the things that take place. Pray for those who are anxious to draw near the Lord for assurance and strength.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 64:1

Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;
    preserve my life from dread of the enemy.

God is our refuge and strength,
    a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
    though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
    though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
    God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
    he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord,
    how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
    he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the chariots with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
