Congress Considers Bills to Regulate AI

Some seek to change “status quo,” while others seek greater freedom.

Members of Congress are split on how to handle regulation for companies developing artificial intelligence (AI).

Earlier this year, Senator Ted Cruz proposed terms in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that would have imposed a moratorium on state AI regulations. That proposal was overwhelmingly voted down by his colleagues.

Meanwhile, Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri has sponsored and co-sponsored a number of bills that seek to hold AI companies responsible for the systems they develop. Senator Hawley said that “the status quo is not acceptable.”

“I think that the corporations are getting a great deal right now, the AI corporations,” Senator Hawley said. “I think that it’s the American people, it’s individuals and workers, who are really endangered“ by the current approach, “which is basically where the corporations do whatever they want.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the Senate and the House as they deliberate over the federal regulations imposed on the development of artificial intelligence.
  • For wisdom for Senators Cruz and Hawley as they separately introduce legislation that would change the rules for AI.
