The Transportation Department released updated guidance for construction.
While President Donald Trump’s administration has focused more on producing more reliable energy, such as coal and petroleum, it is also giving the electric vehicle (EV) charging station construction fund from President Biden’s administration a new lease on life as more states request funding under the federal program. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has updated guidance on the location of the chargers, removing challenging requirements that were previously attached to the funding.
“Earlier this year, Secretary Duffy and the Federal Highway Administration launched a review of the program’s guidance to make the NEVI program more efficient,” DOT Spokesperson Nathaniel Sizemore said. “If a [state’s] submitted plan meets the requirements detailed in the updated program guidance, it will be approved and the State’s NEVI funding will be made available for obligation.”
The president’s administration had initially attempted to freeze the EV station funding apart from Congress, but federal courts blocked that effort in June. The administration did not appeal the ruling and has since approved EV station funding from the construction program, which has been requested by over 40 states.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Transportation Secretary Duffy to be discerning as he oversees the allocation of congressionally approved funding for EV charging stations nationwide.
- For U.S. transportation officials as they assess states’ applications for the charger funding.
