Representative Introduces Resolution to Advance Religious Freedom

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has recommended that several countries be placed on the State Department’s watch list.

Representative French Hill of Arkansas was joined by Representative Jim McGovern of Massachusetts in introducing a resolution to advance religious freedom abroad. The measure recommends that “Countries of Particular Concern“ designated by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) be placed on the State Department’s Special Watch List.

Congressman Hill said, “Religious freedom is a foundational American value and a basic human right, and we cannot turn a blind eye when people around the world are persecuted simply for exercising their faith.“

The representative added, “This resolution puts countries on notice that the United States will continue to call out religious oppression wherever it exists. We have a responsibility to use our voice and our influence to stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves, and I am proud to take the lead on this issue alongside my colleague, Representative McGovern.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Representatives Hill and McGovern as they seek to ensure that nations violating religious freedoms are designated by the State Department.
  • For Secretary Rubio and State Department officials as they deal with leaders from countries that are hostile to religious freedom.
