Public comment opens on plans to strengthen instruction and expand workforce pathways.
U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon recently announced two new proposed priorities for the Department of Education’s discretionary grant programs: Meaningful Learning, as well as Career Pathways and Workforce Readiness. The proposals will support instructional models that build strong core academics, expand personalized learning, and integrate career and technical education into K-12 and higher education systems.
“Amid declining academic outcomes, the Department is committed to revitalizing American education to prepare every student for success in school, work, and life…the Trump Administration will prioritize discretionary grants to education programs that actually improve student outcomes by using evidence-based strategies for instruction and creating pathways to high-demand fields,” said Secretary McMahon.
The Meaningful Learning priority emphasizes areas such as math instruction, effective interventions, high-impact tutoring, competency-based approaches, and innovative assessments. The Career Pathways and Workforce Readiness priority seeks to strengthen connections between schools and workforce needs by promoting industry credentials, expanding apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships, and supporting partnerships between education and employers.
A Notice of Proposed Priority has been published in the Federal Register, with a 30-day public comment period before final priorities are established.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary McMahon to be prudent in her oversight of the grant funding to support career development and apprenticeship programs.
- For U.S. education officials as they gather public commentary and assess the planned grant priorities.
