Federal officials will staff tribal health care through the Indian Health Service.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mobilized 70 public health service officers from the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps to the Indian Health Service facilities last week to strengthen healthcare in Tribal communities. The department has identified sites facing the most staffing shortages and sent these new workers to support healthcare for Indigenous peoples.
“For too long, tribal communities have gone without the care they deserve,” said HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “With vacancy rates above 30%, this mobilization takes bold action to close gaps and deliver timely, quality care to Native families. By working hand-in-hand with Tribal leaders, providers, and families, we are restoring trust and driving the mission to Make America Healthy Again—starting in Indian Country.”
The federal health department collaborated with members of Congress on this deployment.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Kennedy to be discerning as he seeks to improve the healthcare available to native and indigenous communities.
- For members of Congress as they oversee and advocate for Tribal health care and medical support.
