Supreme Court Temporarily Halts Firing of Federal Reserve Governor Cook

The justices will hold a hearing in January 2026 to review the case.

The Supreme Court did not allow President Donald Trump to immediately fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook as her legal challenge plays out. The ruling upheld a decision made by a lower court allowing her to remain in her position as her lawsuit proceeds. The Supreme Court opted to review the case early next year. Oral arguments have been scheduled for January 2026.

The Federal Reserve Act only allows presidents to remove governors “for cause.” President Trump made the attempt to terminate Cook after Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Pulte referred her to the Justice Department for mortgage fraud.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump’s decision to fire Cook was “well within the president’s legal authority.” She added, “We look forward to that case being fully played out at the Supreme Court.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for the justices of the Supreme Court as they begin the fall term.
  • For President Trump and officials in his administration to seek God’s direction as they implement policies and pursue the president’s agenda.
