He stated that purchasing from manufacturers directly will reduce prices.
President Donald Trump announced a new program called TrumpRx this week under his Most Favored Nation (MFN) initiative, which will partner with drug manufacturers to allow American citizens to purchase prescriptions directly from the manufacturer at a discount. The TrumpRx program will launch in 2026, and companies that participate in the program will receive priority reviews from the Food and Drug Administration.
President Trump said, “Pfizer is committing to offer all of their prescription medications to Medicaid, and it will be at the most favoured nation’s prices. We’re working with other major pharmaceutical companies to secure similar agreements.“
He added, “The United States is done subsidising the healthcare of the rest of the world.”
In addition to accepting this deal, Pfizer has also agreed to invest in manufacturing in the United States. The company will receive a three-year waiver on U.S. tariffs in return.
The White House outlined the benefits of this program, saying in a statement, “The agreement will provide every State Medicaid program in the country access to MFN drug prices on Pfizer products, resulting in many millions of dollars in savings.” The TrumpRX website is being launched to facilitate the program.
