Hurricane Imelda is now a Category 1 storm traveling northeast at 7 miles per hour.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) upgraded tropical storm Imelda to a Category 1 hurricane on Tuesday. The storm has gained wind and speed as it neared Bermuda, which the NHC said could bring 80 mph winds to the island.
“On the forecast track, the center of the hurricane should continue to move away from the Bahamas today and be approaching Bermuda Wednesday afternoon,” the NHC said.
The hurricane center has reported that Hurricane Humberto, which was as high as a Category 4 storm and has dropped to a Category 1 storm, is going to cross Bermuda later Tuesday or early Wednesday. While that storm system is pulling Imelda away from the U.S., the forecast for the East Coast includes ongoing dangerous surf and rip currents, and the Carolinas are expected to receive torrential rains.
Imelda is the ninth named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For officials in the National Hurricane Center as they track the storm data and alert people to dangerous conditions.
- For discernment for the president’s administration as they issue storm notices and warnings according to the data.
