In the News…
Judge Tanya Chutkan of the District of Columbia U.S. District Court stated that, while five migrants who have been removed to Ghana from the U.S. do face the threat of torture or persecution in their home countries, she did not have jurisdiction to overturn their deportation.
Judge Chutkan wrote in her 16-page ruling, “The court does not reach this conclusion lightly,” but her “hands are tied.“
In light of Supreme Court decisions that allow President Trump’s administration to continue the deportation of illegal aliens to third-party countries, Judge Chutkan told the attorneys for the migrants, “There’s no point in getting decisions from me that are immediately going to be stayed.”
