Senate Republicans Begin En Masse Confirmation of Trump Nominees

Confirm the first group of nominees after going for “nuclear” rule change

The Senate majority approved the first bloc of President Donald Trump’s nominees to federal positions, appointing midlevel executives and ambassadors to their positions after opting for the “nuclear” option to change Senate appointment rules.

Mid-level nominees are usually appointed by voice votes. But the minority party had refused to allow voice votes for a variety of reasons, in opposition to the president’s administration. Senate Majority Leader John Thune moved to change Senate rules to use a simple majority to approve the hundreds of backlogged nominees in groups.

“If the Senate had continued at the pace that we’ve been proceeding at through the month of July there would still be hundreds of empty desks in the executive branch on President Trump’s last day in office in 2029,” Senator Thune said of the backlog on Thursday.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Majority Leader Thune to look to the Lord for direction as he oversees business in the upper chamber.
  • For senators of both parties to serve in their roles with integrity, honesty, and transparency.
