FCC Alerts Consumers to Robocall Scam Offering Internet Discounts

The agency directs the public to file reports of scams to local law enforcement and the FCC.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a scam alert to inform consumers of an ongoing robocall scam that promises 50 percent off of internet and cable services such as Comcast, Spectrum, or Prime. The robocall will pretend to be a representative of those companies, leaving voicemails and sending texts to their targets.

“Complaints filed with the FCC report that consumers who do call the number back are often encouraged to act quickly to ensure they keep the ‘discount,’” the FCC stated in the alert. “The scammer will also claim the only way to secure the discount is to prepay for multiple months of service using a gift card.”

The agency directed consumers who have been targeted by this scam to report it to local law enforcement and the FCC before attempting to contact the relevant gift card company to recover lost money.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chairman Carr and members of the FCC as they seek to protect consumers from robocall scams.
  • For discernment for FCC officials as they work to shut down fraud and scams in the realm of communications.
