The House Considers Continuing Resolution to Extend Government Funding

The House speaker indicates all options are on the table and discussions continue.

Leaders in the House of Representatives are formulating a plan to extend government funding until November 20, the weekend before Thanksgiving. The end of the current fiscal year is September 30, so representatives have about two weeks to work out an agreement to avoid a government shutdown.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said that all options are on the table, but said that the minority party was “playing games” with funding negotiations. He added that Congress “may need a short-gap funding measure, a CR, for a short period of time to allow the [bipartisan funding] negotiations to continue.”

“But it will be clean in its scope,” Speaker Johnson said. He added, after they conclude discussions in the next two days, “We’ll determine what everyone believes is appropriate.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Speaker Johnson and leaders in the majority to be discerning in their efforts to keep the government funded.
  • For President Trump and officials in his administration as they provide input to Congress regarding the Executive Branch’s funding needs.
