The president’s administration highlights crime policies in Charlotte by bringing federal charges.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a federal charge against a North Carolina repeat offender who stabbed a Ukrainian refugee to death on a Charlotte light rail car. If the suspect, Decarlos Brown, is convicted of the charge of committing an act causing death on a mass transportation system, he could face the death penalty.
“Iryna Zarutska was a young woman living the American dream — her horrific murder is a direct result of failed soft-on-crime policies that put criminals before innocent people,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated. “I have directed my attorneys to federally prosecute DeCarlos Brown Jr., a repeat violent offender with a history of violent crime, for murder. We will seek the maximum penalty for this unforgivable act of violence.”
Russ Ferguson, the U.S. attorney overseeing this case addressed claims of politicalization, saying, “If this was a political grandstand, there would be an opposite side to this. Is the opposite side let’s allow murders on our light rail? Is the opposite side let’s let people out of state prison so they can commit other crimes?” Attorney Ferguson said. “There’s no other side of this. There’s no politics of this. This is a pure and simple federal case.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For U.S. Attorney Ferguson to be led by the Lord as he oversees the federal homicide case.
- For Attorney General Bondi to seek God’s direction as she heads the Justice Department.
- For President Trump and members of his administration as they assess the rates of violent crime in metropolises around the country.
