Senate Majority Leader Moves to Change Confirmation Rules

The minority party has stonewalled hundreds of the president’s nominees.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune took the first steps this week to expedite the confirmation of lower-level nominees submitted by President Donald Trump. He pointed out the necessity of the move, citing the obstruction from the minority party keeping confirmations from proceeding.

Senator Thune said, “As the Senate spends more of its time working on nominations, this leaves less time for legislating on issues that are important to the American people.”

President Trump has submitted over 600 nominees for lower-level federal positions for the Senate to confirm, which are usually passed by voice votes in quick succession. Majority Leader Thune will attempt to authorize the approval of the nominees in batches, as opposed to individually.

The Senate majority leader said, “This is a business model that does not work when it comes to running and operating the government, and that’s why it’s got to be fixed.”

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer denounced Senator Thune’s decision to enact “nuclear” emergency measures rather than holding the president accountable.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Majority Leader Thune to be prudent in his attempt to change the confirmation process.
  • For Minority Leader Schumer to work for the good of the American public with integrity.
