U.S. Destroys Venezuelan Drug Boat in Southern Caribbean

The U.S. is not bound by the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

President Donald Trump announced this week that the U.S. military carried out a strike on a ship in the Caribbean, allegedly transporting drugs from Venezuela to the United States. The strike killed the 11 people on the vessel, which the president called “narcoterrorists.” The United States is not a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, meaning that the U.S. military did not violate international law by carrying out a lethal strike in international waters.

President Trump stated the action was necessary to send a message to Venezuela, which the president’s administration maintains has harbored gangs that send illegal drugs to the United States.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the move, stating, “The U.S. military conducted a lethal strike in the southern Carribean against a drug vessel which had departed from Venezuela and was being operated by a designated narco-terrorist organization.“

Venezuela has reacted negatively to the United States’ escalating military actions, with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro promising to “declare a republic in arms” if any operations reached Venezuelan territory.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump to seek the Lord’s direction as he pursues policies that prevent narcotics trafficking into the U.S.
  • For Secretary Rubio to be led by the Lord as he heads the State Department.
  • For the safety of the U.S. military personnel stationed in the Caribbean to intercept drug traffickers.
