Federal Judge Rules National Guard Deployment to Los Angeles Illegal

The District of Columbia has also filed suit to stop the deployment of National Guard troops in the nation’s capital.

District Judge Charles Breyer determined this week that President Donald Trump’s administration violated federal law by deploying the National Guard to Los Angeles in June to stop rioting and vandalism that sprang from immigration enforcement protests. The judge did not require the 300 National Guard soldiers currently in the city to leave, but ordered the administration to cease using the National Guard “to execute the laws” in California after September 12.

In his 52-page ruling, Judge Breyer expressed concerns regarding the intentions of President Trump and Defense Secretary Hegseth to deploy National Guard troops across the nation to address crime, stating that they seem to be “creating a national police force with the President as its chief.”

The White House responded that the administration will appeal Judge Breyer’s ruling.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated, “Once again, a rogue judge is trying to usurp the authority of the Commander-in-Chief to protect American cities from violence and destruction.”

The District of Columbia has now sued the president’s administration to halt the deployment of National Guard troops to address crime and social unrest.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For federal judges to uphold the law impartially as they hear and rule on challenges to the president’s actions.
  • For President Trump and members of his administration to accurately interpret federal laws as they address immigration and violent crime.
