She has refused to resign at the HHS secretary’s request, which led to her being fired.
The White House announced that Susan Monarez has been fired from her position as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The Department of Health and Human Services stated on Wednesday that Monarez “is no longer director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We thank her for her dedicated service to the American people.”
Monarez had only held the position for one month before being asked to resign last week by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. She refused to step down, resulting in her firing a few days later.
“Susan Monarez is not aligned with the President’s agenda of Making America Healthy Again,” White House spokesperson Kush Desai said. “Since Susan Monarez refused to resign despite informing HHS leadership of her intent to do so, the White House has terminated Monarez from her position with the CDC.”
After a gunman shot up the CDC’s headquarters, Monarez attributed the tragic event to health misinformation.
