President Donald Trump’s new “secondary sanctions“ on India are set to take effect today. President Trump proposed to increase the tariff rate on Indian goods from 25 percent to 50 percent due to that nation’s continued purchase of discounted Russian oil, which supports the ongoing war against Ukraine.

Though India’s refiners have signaled their intention to reduce purchases of Russian crude oil in the near future, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has continued to strengthen his connection with President Vladimir Putin. Both leaders are expected to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit next week in Tianjin at Chinese President Xi Jinping’s invitation.
As President Trump seeks to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, he acknowledged that a direct meeting between Presidents Putin and Zelensky is less likely since Russia’s leader so strongly dislikes Ukraine’s. President Trump indicated that new sanctions against Russia are being considered and the administration has not yet placed sanctions on other nation’s that purchase Russian oil, including China.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump to seek the Lord’s wisdom as he considers sanctions against Russia and purchasers of Russian oil.
- For discernment for the president and his trade team as they negotiate tariffs and trade agreements.
- For God’s purposes and plans to be accomplished in and through the president’s administration.
