In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. – Proverbs 3:6

Does the road map of your life appear more like a bowl of spaghetti than a heavenly highway? As the culture war plays out between progressive, traditional, liberal, and conservative factions, you may sometimes feel bewildered in the crossfire! What do you do when the world you once knew seems unrecognizable and you feel unsure about what to do next?

The Apostle Paul was addressing enslaved people when he wrote these words, “Whatever you do work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24).

Paul could not change the laws of his time and abolish slavery, nor free anyone physically. He pointed every follower of Christ to the freedom they possessed spiritually in Him. Many found comfort in this reminder that everything they did, even under the duress of extremely difficult circumstances, when done as unto the Lord, was transformed into an eternal inheritance blessed by the Son of God.

While you may not be able to change your most challenging situation today, and you certainly cannot deliver the world from its pressing problems, you can choose your focus and priorities. A heart dedicated to God will produce a life of abundance and substance regardless of the defining circumstances.

Pray for America’s public officials to humbly seek God in their hearts and place faith in Jesus Christ. Ask for the people of this nation to be delivered from sin’s slavery and set on a course towards a new day of blessing.

Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
    teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth and teach me,
    for you are the God of my salvation;
    for you I wait all the day long.
Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
    for they have been from of old.
Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
    according to your steadfast love remember me,
    for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!
Good and upright is the Lord;
    therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
He leads the humble in what is right,
    and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
    for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.
