White House Unfreezes CDC Grant Spending

Officials approve a spending plan of $200 million for health programs and research.

Employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released $200 million in grant funding it withheld in July.

When President Trump began his second term, the White House instituted a month-to-month review process for all CDC expenditures, saying it was necessary to review its use of funding. Since then, some programs have received funding with significant delays, while others have remained completely frozen.

The 2025 fiscal year ends on September 30, and while CDC employees are glad they can continue funding programs such as youth violence prevention and tobacco addiction research, they are worried they might run out of time to distribute it all.

“It’s good news with an asterisk,” said Sharon Gilmartin, the executive director of the Safe States Alliance.

“Unfreezing the funds at least lets the grants start to move through the system and have a chance to get out the door,” Gilmartin said, though there’s still a possibility they don’t.

“Now it’s up to HHS and DOGE [the Department of Government Efficiency] to do the right thing and get the grants to those to whom they’ve been appropriated,” Gilmartin said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That the Lord grants CDC employees wisdom as they distribute federal funding.
  • That the OMB ensures that Congressionally-mandated funding gets to where it needs to go.
  • That the work of President Donald Trump supports the health of the American people.
