Federal program to enhance transportation access in 35 states and U.S. territories
The Department of Transportation (DOT) has allocated $175 million through the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Ferry Boat Program (FBP) to 35 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa. The funding is for improvements to ferry services, support construction and maintenance of ferry boats and terminals, and improve transportation for communities where bridges or tunnels are not practical. Projects may involve ferries carrying both vehicles and passengers or passenger-only ferries operating on public routes.
“We make life easier when we make the transportation of people and products smoother. In places like Alaska, our maritime highways are critical arteries for commuters and regional supply chains. From our skies to our roads, rail networks, and waterways, America is building again thanks to President Trump,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
Funds will be distributed through state transportation departments to eligible ferry operators for vessel acquisition, facility upgrades, operational costs, and, when requirements are met, the construction of new services and related infrastructure.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Secretary Duffy as he oversees the awarding of funding for ferry service improvements.
- For DOT officials as they evaluate transportation infrastructure projects for federal funding.
