Federal investigation cites university’s failure to address antisemitic harassment and discrimination.
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has determined that George Washington University (GWU) violated federal civil rights law by failing to address a “hostile educational environment” for Jewish, American-Israeli, and Israeli students and faculty. The Civil Rights Division determined the university took no effective action in response to complaints, incidents of misconduct, or reported harms—concluding it acted with intentional disinterest.
The investigation was conducted under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination and harassment based on race or national origin in federally funded programs. The Justice Department stated it will seek prompt corrective action from the university to resolve the offenses.
“Every student has the right to equal educational opportunities without fear of harassment or abuse,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “No one is above the law, and universities that promulgate antisemitic discrimination will face legal consequences.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Assistant Attorney General Dhillon as she seeks to ensure the civil rights of all college students are protected.
- For Attorney General Bondi to be led by the Lord as she heads the Justice Department.
