Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Robert F. Kennedy Jr., visited the headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Monday, observing the damage after a gunman opened fire on the campus from a nearby drug store late last week. The suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot.
“He offered his deepest condolences and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to honoring Officer Rose’s bravery, sacrifice and service to the nation,” HHS stated. Secretary Kennedy also visited with Rose’s widow and the DeKalb County Police Department after viewing the damage at the CDC.
Law enforcement reported recovering nearly 500 shell casings from the scene, and roughly 200 of the shots hit the facilities on the campus.
A vigil was held Tuesday evening for the slain officer, who had served in the U.S. Marine Corps prior to joining law enforcement.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Kennedy and HHS and CDC officials as they assess the damage and evaluate the security of federal facilities.
- For comfort for the officer’s wife and family as they grieve his loss.
- For healing for CDC employees as they deal with the trauma of the shooting attack.
