President Temporarily Federalizes D.C. Police Force

President Trump invoked a section of the Home Rule Act that allows federal control of the MPD under special emergency conditions.

President Donald Trump announced that the National Guard has been deployed to restore law and order to Washington, D.C. He stated that the Metropolitan Police Department is now being commanded by Attorney General Pamela Bondi. The attorney general was present for the president’s announcement, as were Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Interior Secretary Doug Bergum, FBI Director Kash Patel, and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro.

President Trump said, “I’m announcing a historic action to rescue our Nation’s Capitol from crime, bloodshed, bedlam, and squalor, and worse.”

“The murder rate in Washington today is higher than that of Bogotá, Colombia,” The president continued. “The number of car thefts has doubled over the past five years, and the number of carjackings has more than tripled.”

The president invoked a section of the Home Rule Act that allows the federal executive to take control of the District of Columbia’s police force temporarily when “special conditions of an emergency nature exist.” The emergency control is for a maximum of 30 days, unless Congress authorizes an extension.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump to seek God’s direction as he addresses crime in the nation’s capital through the Home Rule provision.
  • For safety and strength over the National Guard and Metropolitan Police Department as they work together.
  • For members of the president’s administration as they seek to reduce the violence that has occurred in the District of Columbia.
