The agency has placed China at level 2, enhancing precautions for Chikungunya.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has upgraded precautions for travel to China as there is an outbreak of chikungunya in Guangdong Province. The virus, which is spread by mosquitoes, has some similar symptoms to dengue fever and Zika virus. Thousands in China have been infected as they use nets, insecticide spray, and even deploy drones to address the virus.
The CDC stated, “You can protect yourself by preventing mosquito bites, which includes using insect repellent; wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants; and staying in places with air conditioning or that have screens on the windows and doors.”
The agency added, “Vaccination is recommended for travelers who are visiting an area with a chikungunya outbreak. Two chikungunya vaccines are approved for use in the United States.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Director Susan Monarez to be led by the Lord as she heads the CDC.
- For wisdom for U.S. health officials as they monitor the spread of the virus in China.
- For Americans to be prudent as they consider international travel.
