The two countries sign an agreement creating “Trump Route” trade corridor.
President Donald Trump hosted a peace summit meeting between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Friday, where leaders from each country will sign a number of new agreements.
The two nations have battled over a region known as the Nagorno-Karabakh, which resulted in the deaths of 30,000 people in the early 1990s and at least 6,000 during a 44-day conflict in 2020. Russian President Putin had negotiated a ceasefire in 2020, but lost his influence after his nation invaded Ukraine in 2022.
President Trump stated, “It’s a long time… 35 years they fought — and now, they’re friends… It’s a big beautiful honor to welcome everyone to the White House for this very historic peace summit between Armenia and Azerbaijan.“
During Friday’s peace talks, both Armenia and Azerbaijan separately signed cooperation deals with the United States. They also jointly signed an agreement that establishes a major transit corridor named the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity.
“The roadmap they are agreeing to will build a cooperative future that benefits both countries, their region of the South Caucasus, and beyond,” said White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly. She added that the new transit corridor will “allow unimpeded connectivity between the two countries while respecting Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and its people.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump to be led by the Lord as he seeks to negotiate peace between warring nations.
- For wisdom for U.S. officials as they work to broker ceasefires between other countries.
