Fort Stewart Army Base Locks Down After Active Shooting

Officials report five soldiers were shot, gunman apprehended.

U.S. Army installation Fort Stewart reported that a gunman shot five soldiers on Wednesday morning. The shooter was arrested within 30 minutes. The Georgia fort, established as an anti-aircraft artillery training center in 1940, is the largest military installation east of the Mississippi River.

“Five soldiers were shot today in an active shooter incident in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area,” the Army stated. “All soldiers were treated on-site and moved to Winn Army Community Hospital for further treatment. There is no active threat to the community.”

The base locked down for approximately one hour. Around 10,000 troops and family members live on the installation. Schools and community centers in the area also temporarily locked down.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the recovery of the soldiers who were injured in the shooting.
  • For military installation officials as they investigate the attack.
  • For Pentagon and Defense Department leaders as they assess the security of military forts and bases.
