Department of Transportation Expands Light-Sport Aircraft Qualifications

Secretary Duffy announces the updated policies at the Oshkosh, Wisconsin, flight convention.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) recently announced that it is expanding the category for aircraft in the Light-Sport Sector, which includes hang gliders, pontoon planes, and self-constructed hobby aircraft. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the changes in policy at the regional gathering of hobby aircraft constructors in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Policy changes include increasing the weight limit, including aircraft with higher speeds, accepting new propulsion types within the sector, and allowing the use of light sport aircraft for agricultural surveillance.

“This landmark rule aims to increase the availability of safe, modern, and affordable aircraft for recreational aviation, flight training, and certain aerial work,” said Federal Aviation Administrator Bryan Bedford. “It enables industry to meet the growing demand for more versatile aircraft with higher performance capabilities while maintaining high standards of safety.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Bedford as he oversees the policies enforced by the FAA.
  • For Transportation Department officials as they work to promote safety in hobby aircraft for Americans.
  • For members of the president’s administration to receive discernment from the Lord as they make decisions and take action.
