“Everything is on the table,” majority leader tells reporters
Last week, Senate Majority Leader John Thune floated his support for the idea of letting President Donald Trump make direct appointments for nominees to federal leadership positions while the Senate is out on recess.
“I think everything is on the table,” Senator Thune told reporters, but added that other options such as rules reform “make more sense.”
“Fixing the rules, not just for now, but for the long term would be a better solution for it. But at this point right now, I wouldn’t say we’re taking any options off the table,” Thune said.
While there is a fair amount of support among Senators to give President Trump this power while they are in recess, there are a few major obstacles. A must vote to approve this measure would require a majority vote, but currently, there may not be consensus in the Senate. Another is that the House must also approve a similar action, which may take a fair amount of time to solidify.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Senator Thune as he coordinates the work of the Senate majority party.
- That the Lord lends the Senate wisdom as they consider how best to work with the Trump administration.
- That the work of President Donald Trump always prioritizes the flourishing of the American people.
