DOJ Files Lawsuit Relating to Sanctuary City Policies

Department raises concern regarding cities protecting “dangerous criminals.”

the Department of Justice (DOJ) unveiled a lawsuit against “sanctuary city” laws implemented by New York City.

Sanctuary cities are a nickname given to jurisdictions that adopt policies preventing local and federal law enforcement from arresting illegal immigrants within the area. The DOJ alleges that New York City’s sanctuary city policies violate the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution, alleging that the laws allow New York City to harbor “dangerous criminals” in plain sight.

“New York City has released thousands of criminals on the streets to commit violent crimes against law-abiding citizens due to sanctuary city policies,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “If New York City won’t stand up for the safety of its citizens, we will.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams promised that the city would review the DOJ’s lawsuit.

“Keeping New Yorkers safe also means making sure they feel safe, and we have been clear: no one should be afraid to dial 911, send their kids to school, or go to the hospital, and no New Yorker should feel forced to hide in the shadows,” Adams said in a statement.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Attorney General Bondi as she directs the focus of the Department of Justice.
  • For Department of Justice attorneys as they pursue complete compliance with American law.
  • For the president’s administration to work together with local governments for the good of the nation
