Going into the weekend, President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Canadian goods entering the United States. The executive order increases the tariff rate from 25% to 35%. President Trump directly commented on Canada’s recognition of statehood for Palestine, saying, “That will make it very hard for us to make a trade deal with them.” The president also cited the crisis of fentanyl smuggling across the U.S.-Canada border.

Today, the Senate has delayed going on its fall recess in favor of continuing the process of vetting and voting on President Donald Trump’s administration nominations. Currently, there are still over 150 nominees requiring confirmation votes. Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are working on agreements that would accelerate the pace of confirmations for the pending nominees. As of Saturday, they have yet to reach a bipartisan deal.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God to direct the conversations between President Trump and Canada’s Prime Minister Carney.
- For the president to seek God’s wisdom as he continues to work out trade deals with other global trade partners.
- For members of the U.S. Senate to seek God’s will as they vote on the president’s nominees.
