Interior Department Seeks to Recover Critical Minerals from Mine Waste

The agency states, “Mine waste holds untapped supplies of minerals essential for U.S. technology and national security.”

The Department of the Interior has launched an effort to recover critical minerals from mine waste, coal refuse, tailings and abandoned uranium mines to strengthen the nation’s economy, national defense, and energy. The initiative aligns with President Trump’s executive order on increasing American mineral production.

“By unlocking the potential of our mine waste, we are not only recovering valuable critical minerals essential for our economy and national security, but we are also leveraging groundbreaking research from the U.S. Geological Survey that identifies promising sources of these minerals,” said Secretary Doug Burgum.

“This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to achieving mineral independence and ensuring that America leads the way in advanced technologies that power our future while turning environmental challenges into opportunities for growth and innovation,” he added.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Burgum to receive God’s direction as he heads the Interior Department.
  • For U.S. interior officials as they support efforts to reclaim critical minerals from mine waste.
