Columbia Pays $221 Million to Settle with President’s Administration

The government dismissed its lawsuit alleging violation of anti-discrimination laws.

Columbia University announced last week that it has agreed to pay President Trump’s administration $221 million to settle its lawsuit targeting its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.

The government sued Columbia University earlier this year, claiming that the college’s DEI policies violate equal employment laws. President Trump’s administration also suspended billions of dollars in federal grant funding to the college for its lack of compliance. In this new settlement, the lawsuit will be dropped, the “vast majority” of its paused funding will be restored, and Columbia will not admit to wrongdoing. Columbia is also required to provide the president’s administration with its hiring data.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon stated, “The Trump Administration’s deal with Columbia University is a seismic shift in our nation’s fight to hold institutions that accept American taxpayer dollars accountable for antisemitic discrimination and harassment.”

Secretary McMahon continued, “For decades, the American public has watched in horror as our elite campuses have been overrun by anti-western teachings and a leftist groupthink that restricts speech and debate to push a one-sided view of our nation and the world. These dangerous trends fueled the outbreak of violent antisemitism that paralyzed campuses after the October 7th massacre and was previously unthinkable in the United States of America.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and education secretary as they seek to ensure the safety of all students on college campuses.
  • For Secretary McMahon to receive God’s wisdom as she oversees the review of hiring practices of universities and other educational institutions.
