The U.S. Capitol Police investigation showed he made threatening calls from Voice of America headquarters phone lines.
The Justice Department has indicted a Voice of America employee who made eight threatening calls between 2023 and 2025 to Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. The U.S. Capitol Police investigated the calls the man placed, in which he said he would shoot and kill the congresswoman, her staff, and their families. They found that he had called from phones at the headquarters and studios of Voice of America.
“For 15 months, I received terrifying death threats from one individual who worked alarmingly close to my office building at the Voice of America,” Representative Greene stated. “That kind of sustained, targeted harassment is deeply disturbing. I truly feared for my life, as I do with all of the death threats I receive.”
She added, “Threatening an elected official, their family, or their staff is not free speech. It’s a crime, and it must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The maximum penalty prescribed by Congress for influencing a federal officials by threat is ten years in prison. The maximum sentence for interstate communications that threaten to injure or kidnap is five years. The maximum penalty for anonymous telecommunications harassment is two years.
