HHS Bans Illegal Immigrants from Public Health Benefits

Health secretary advocates for updated interpretation of policies implemented by PRWORA.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that the interpretation of the 1998 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA), which granted illegal aliens access to over a dozen emergency and educational health services, has been formally rescinded. The department maintains that a law was improperly interpreted to allow such access.

For nearly 30 years, federal health officials allowed illegal aliens access to taxpayer-funded care under the act. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., said that the current legal interpretation blocking illegal aliens from accessing programs is more in line with the law’s original text.

“For too long, the government has diverted hardworking Americans’ tax dollars to incentivize illegal immigration,” Secretary Kennedy stated. “Today’s action changes that—it restores integrity to federal social programs, enforces the rule of law, and protects vital resources for the American people.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Kennedy as he seeks to ensure taxpayer funding covers U.S. citizens and legal immigrants.
  • For government health officials as they assess federal benefits and program coverage.
