How do you handle an unanswered call? Do you call again, do you text, or do you reach out in another way? It can be frustrating to desire someone’s attention and not get it.
One of the most comforting promises of God is that He is here for you: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8). However, many of His followers can identify a time when they reached out and experienced silence in response. What is happening when the Lord appears to be quiet?
The reality is that God HAS already answered your prayer in Christ. Jesus’ work reconciled you to God and nothing, not even death, can separate you from Him. This is usually not the kind of consolation a person in pain is looking for. When your soul aches from the stress of life and you are breathless, hoping to hear from Heaven, don’t misunderstand God’s silence. Far from ignoring you, He is likely saying, “Hold on, loved one… and wait.”
Being on hold is difficult. As brutal as it might feel, many times God uses “wait” to train His heavy lifters. Like a day at the gym, when your muscles are quaking and shaking, that is when they are truly developing. Spiritually speaking, “waiting” is like holding the dumbbell for that extra thirty seconds.
Are you training in the “wait” room today? Your Father is helping you build a bold faith that will point many to Christ. Pray for faithful leaders in America to join you in strengthening their hold on Christ.
