The search continues for over 180 missing people, as more than one hundred have died.
President Donald Trump confirmed his plan to visit Texas on Friday, with First Lady Melania Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem accompanying him, to survey the damage and check in on rescue and recovery efforts after historic flooding hit the state’s hill country, particularly the Guadalupe River region. Governor Greg Abbott stated that over 180 people are still missing as the death toll has reached 109, with children making up a significant portion of the fatalities.
President Trump said during his Tuesday Cabinet meeting, “I’ll be going down on Friday with the first lady and we will be taking a trip. And we don’t want to get in anyone’s way because, you know, it’s what happens. The president goes, and everyone’s around focused. I don’t want anyone to focus on us.”
He added, “They could have somebody saved still. And, you know, probably unlikely at this point, but that could be. I mean, they’re thinking there could be the possibility, but, what a tragic situation.”
Governor Abbott said, “We will stop at nothing to ensure that every asset and person and plane, whatever is needed, is going to be involved in the process of rescuing every last person and ensure everybody involved in this is going to be fully accounted for.”
The National Weather Service has confirmed that they were adequately staffed
