The measure would also mandate proof of citizenship for federal voting.
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia announced planned legislation that would require a new U.S. census that counts only citizens for the purpose of determining House of Representatives seats per state. The bill would also mandate proof of U.S. citizenship to vote in federal elections.
Representative Greene said she discussed the proposal with President Trump, who expressed strong support for it. The congresswoman described the measure as a “matter of national security,” arguing it would prevent non-citizens from influencing political representation and voting and causing “world takeover” of the country.
Currently, the U.S. Census counts all residents, including non-citizens, to determine House apportionment, under the current interpretation of the Constitution’s 14th Amendment. Changing the census to count only citizens could shift congressional seats among states, potentially altering the Electoral College as well. Supporters say the change would ensure representation reflects the citizen population, while opponents warn it could significantly affect the political landscape and voter access.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump as he seeks to ensure representation for U.S. citizens as well as election integrity.
- For Congresswoman Greene as she collaborates on the legislation to require the census to count only U.S. citizens.
