The death toll has reached over 80.
President Donald Trump declared a major disaster in Texas after multiple storms, that began on the 4th of July, caused flash flooding. While hundreds have been rescued, the flooding has claimed the lives of more than 80 people across the state, including two camp counselors and dozens of girls who were at a Christian camp when their cabins were washed away.
On Sunday, President Trump wrote, “I just signed a Major Disaster Declaration for Kerr County, Texas, to ensure that our Brave First Responders immediately have the resources they need. These families are enduring an unimaginable tragedy, with many lives lost, and many still missing.”
The president continued, “Our incredible U.S. Coast Guard, together with State First Responders, have saved more than 850 lives. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS TEXAS!”
The White House Faith Office stated, “Amidst this tragedy, our nation must come together to pray for the victims, their families and the first responders conducting rescue missions to find those still missing. May God wrap his loving arms around all those in Texas.“
The White House announced that Benjamin Abbott will serve as the Federal Coordinating Officer to manage relief operations.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated on Sunday, “I visited Camp Mystic. It, and the river running beside it, were horrendously ravaged in ways unlike I’ve seen in any natural disaster. The height the rushing water reached to the top of cabins was shocking. We won’t stop until we find every girl who was in those cabins.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis mobilized rescue teams to assist with the search for survivors. Govrnor DeSantis stated, “Florida will support Texas following the catastrophic flooding in Kerrville and the surrounding areas.“
