President Donald Trump is going to tour the new Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in the Florida Everglades, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz.” The Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport location, which was an existing setup for emergency responses, was repurposed “within a matter of days,” Governor DeSantis announced. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said of the detention venue, “There is only one road leading in and the only way out is a one-way flight. It is isolated, and surrounded by dangerous wildlife in unforgiving terrain.”

The Senate is in the process of voting on the “Big, Beautiful Bill” that will fund President Donald Trump’s agenda. Among the many provisions of the legislation, it would extend tax cuts from President Trump’s first term and offer tax breaks on tips and overtime pay. A number of amendments have been proposed and are being addressed in what is called a “vote-a-rama.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have been involved in negotiations regarding the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap, which has been a sticking point for several federal legislators. Speaker Johnson anticipates the Senate passage of the legislation with the House of Representatives taking it back up tomorrow to consider the changes.
