In the News…
Colorado Representative Joe Neguse announced a legislative agenda this month entitled “End Corruption Now,” to address corruption at the highest levels of U.S. government. Six of his House colleagues supported the agenda by introducing various measures to prohibit members of Congress from becoming lobbyists or members of corporate boards after leaving public office, holding or trading individual stocks during their tenure (immediate family members as well), and defining “official acts” by public officials.
Congressman Neguse said, “The time for this corruption to end is now. We must clean up government for future generations and ensure our government is serving the American people, not special interests.”
He called corruption today “next level,” saying, “The difference in my view is the normalization that I think citizens have become almost desensitized to the everyday corruption that is now so rampant in our nation’s capital.”
“The more that voters become and citizens become apathetic and desensitized to this type of corruption, the more corruption will occur,” Representative Neguse added. “We ought to be willing to condemn that and to stand up and say that that’s wrong irrespective of one’s political affiliation,”
