Sean Duffy
Secretary of Transportation
Sean Patrick Duffy was born in October 1971 in Hayward, Wisconsin. He earned an undergraduate degree in history and literature from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and his Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law.
Duffy appeared in reality television shows to start his career and also provided competition commentary on ESPN. He became the Ashland County district attorney and was reelected to the position four times. He won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 and was reelected twice.
Duffy resigned from the House in 2019 when his daughter was born with a heart defect from Downs Syndrome. He briefly served as a political commentator, then became senior counsel for a lobbying group. He also served as a cohost for a business television program.
Duffy was nominated by President Donald Trump to be Secretary of Transportation, was confirmed by the Senate, and was sworn into office in late January 2025.
Duffy is married to Rachel, with whom he has 9 children. He is Catholic.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that states refusing to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations will not receive federal funding from the Department of Transportation after President Trump ordered ICE “to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.”
Secretary Duffy stated, “The USDOT will NOT fund rogue state actors who refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.”
He continued, “And to cities that stand by while rioters destroy transportation infrastructure — don’t expect a red cent from DOT, either.”
“Follow the law, or forfeit the funding,” Secretary Duffy concluded.
